Grand Mound, Washington

Washington’s mountains rise from the ground like the mighty, mythical gods of lore. Stretching upwards with little regard for the communities of people peppered around them, such grand indifference captures our imaginations and awe. We strive to scale and conquer them, to master their trails and hills, and their magnificence allows us to transcend who we are in some magical way. Grand Mound, Washington places you within reach of the state’s majestic mountains, and thus its main attractions.

The Area

Grand Mound, Washington was founded in 1851 by Jotham Weeks Judson, the father of future pioneer and author Phoebe Judson. As a census-designated place (CDP) in Thurston County, Grand Mound possesses a settled population that is not legally incorporated as a town or city under Washington state laws. CDPs include small rural communities, which precisely describes Grand Mound with a population scratching 3,000. While the community itself does not necessarily have any attractions, towns like Centralia are within close vicinity. But the real star is Washington State’s natural beauty, which is well within driving distance and includes such historic places as Mount St. Helens, Mount Rainier National Park and the Pacific beaches.

Do & See

Part of Grand Mound’s attraction is its vicinity to Washington’s fabulous national parks and mountainsides. It is well worth the drive to see the stunning views of the mountains and beaches, and adventurers will be well rewarded by taking to the hiking trails and plentiful outdoor activities. For even more options, seek nearby towns such as Centralia.

Most of the area's eateries are located in nearby Centralia, and the selection is impressive. Diners can choose from Chinese, Mexican, Italian and many more, as well as hearty American cuisine.

Bars & Nightlife

When staying in Grand Mound, be sure to travel to Centralia for its whimsical nightlife. Old-West bars and friendly pubs abound, serving some delicious pub food and entrees, and boasting an impressive selection of brews and vintages.

The Grand Mound area and its surroundings is home to some great bargains. You can find plenty of outlet malls as well as some smaller boutiques with tons of personality nearby in Centralia.
